In loving memory of Lawrence “Larry” Gene “Sully” Sullivan, who passed away at Oakes Community Hospital on October 16, 2013 at the age of 73. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Loretta Sullivan; his step-parents Bernard and Claudette Colestock of Hecla; his daughters, Laura Stehly and husband Tom, of Hecla, Lisa Banks of Santa Cruz, CA and Brigette Santistevan and husband Matthew, of Edgewood, NM; his sister Donna Buntin and husband Chuck of Claremore, OK; his brother and sister-in-law Lee and Sheila Sullivan of Hecla. He is also fondly remembered by his eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, niece, nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as many friends from around the world. He is preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Colestock, née Rhonish and his father Eugene Sullivan.

     Larry was born in Detroit, MI on April 11, 1940. His family settled in the Hecla area where they operated a hunting lodge called the 12 Gauge Ranch. Larry attended and graduated from Hecla High School in 1957. Upon graduation from high school he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed all over the world during his 20 year career. After retiring from the military in 1978, he began his second career in aviation. He owned an operated a regional airline called Renown Aviation and was involved in the aviation community until his passing. Although Larry traveled and lived all over the world he always considered South Dakota his “true home”. He will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, grandfather, friend, boss and mentor who loved, supported and guided his family and friends. Fonder memories of Larry’s bright wit and intellect, his talents in barbecuing, gardening and producing amazing tomatoes will be cherished and remembered always. A memorial in Larry’s honor will be held in Hecla in June 2014. Remembrances can be made in Larry’s name to a cancer research foundation of your choice or to Oakes Community Hospital; who so lovingly cared for our dad in his final stages of cancer.
