N.D (NewsDakota.com) With the end of the season looming just three weeks away, and home court advantage for the EDC tournament on the line, the Hi-Liners volleyball team was handed a 3-0 loss on the road against the Fargo Shanley Deacons.
Led by middle hitter Alivia Fraase, who tallied a match high 11 kills on the night, the Deacons were able to fend off the Hi-Liners in three straight games.
Valley City was unable to come up with an answer for the strong offensive attack of Shanley, dropping the first two games by scores of 25-19, and 25-18. The Hi-Liners best chance of winning a game came in the third contest. Valley City’s Madison Taylor helped give the visiting side their first lead of the match but they unable to hold on as the Deacons surpassed them to end the match with a 25-22 win in game three.
Taylor, Danica Diegel, and Clair Olson all led the Hi-Liners with a total of 6 kills. Jessica Denholm tallied 19 assists and 19 digs for Valley City.
While Fraase lead the Deacons in kills Sarah Jacobson and Somer Bucholz added 9 apiece for the home team. The win gives Shanley a 22 -2 overall record and 13-1 record in league play. The loss drops Valley city to 6-6 in the EDC with a 16-13 season record. Valley City returns to action on Thursday, October 24th, when they host Fargo South in a two point match.
