CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) For the Third time this season Vikings running back, Derek Elliott, has been named the North Star Athletic Association’s offensive player of the week.

The Valley City Native received the honor for his game against Gustavus Adolphus. During the contest, Elliott had 234 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. He scored once and tallied 143 of those yards rushing. The senior back also led the team in receiving with six catches for a total of 61 yards, including a 30-yard touchdown reception.

Elliott currently leads the nation in all-purpose Yards (1499), total rushing yards (1157), rushing yards per game (165.300), total scoring (99 points), and scoring per game (14.1 points). Along with those marks, he now holds school records in career rushing touch downs (30), single game rushing TD’s (5), most points in a game(31), and single game TD’s (5). He is currently on pace to break a number of VCSU’s regular season records as well this year.

Elliott and the Vikings received five votes in the NAIA Coaches Poll this week, but still fell out of the top 25. They will look to regain their foothold in the rankings on Saturday, October 26th when they host University of Jamestown at Shelly Ellig Field.
