CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) On a night that saw Aurissa Martens record her 1,000th career kill, Valley City was unable to record the home win as they fell to Dickinson State in four games on Tuesday night.
Martens 1,000th kill came in game three and gave the Viking the inspiration needed stave off the three game sweep at the hands of the Blue Hawks . With a 25-22 win, Valley City forced a fourth game. However, they could not earn the victory in the fourth contest dropping the match by a final score of 25-22.
The Blue Hawks won the match with scores of 25-23, 25-20, 22-5, 25-22.
Valley City now falls to 12-19 on the season while the Blue Hawks, who will join the North Star Athletic Association next season, advance to 3-17 on the year.
Leading scores for the Vikings were, Martens, who finished the match with 17 Kills, and Kelsey Labodi who tallied 13 of her own in the match. Stephanie Miller had five aces in the game to go along with 20 assists, Megan Good finished the night with 19 assists.
The Blue Hawks were led by Kelley O’Connor who had 13 kills against the Vikings.
Valley City State returns to the court this weekend when they travel to Forest City, Iowa for the Waldorf College Tournament.
