(NewsDakota.com) Several cases of head lice have been reported at the Oakes Elementary School within the past month.
The school does have a policy in place to deal with head lice. When a student is reported with, or suspected to have head lice, that student, and any other students possibly affected will be checked immediately.
If the student has a live louse or egg, they are sent home immediately and required to have a hair treatment that kills the lice. When they return to school the next day, they are once again checked by a staff member. The process is repeated until the student is lice free.
If a dead louse or shell is found in a student’s hair, it will be removed, and the student will be sent back to class.
Anyone with questions or concerns is asked to call the school at 742-3234.
