(NewsDakota.com) For two teams that were already assured a playoff position in two weeks, this game still had a playoff-type feel. In the end, the Milnor/North Sargent Bulldogs were able to hold off the Oakes Tornadoes 8-6 on Friday evening.

Neither team managed to crack the scoreboard in the first two quarters. In the third, Andrew Martinson broke several tackles, including one involving the tugging of the back of his jersey, and scored from 45 yards out. Martinson also scored on the lone two-point try for the Bulldogs after the touchdown.

Oakes responded in the fourth quarter with a 21 yard touchdown pass from Bryce Meehl to Cole Ehrlin; however, the Tornadoes were unable to tie the game on a failed two-point try of their own. The Bulldog defense answered big down the stretch including a couple of pass deflections at the line of scrimmage from Wyatt Mund.

With Carrington’s loss at Hillsboro/Central Valley, the Bulldogs (5-2 5-1 Class A Region I) are assured a game at home for the first round of the playoffs. Oakes (5-2 4-2) can still host a first round game with a win at home versus Carrington on Saturday.

Coverage of Oakes/Carrington next Saturday starts at 1 p.m. on KDDR-AM 1220 and NewsDakota.com, with kick at 1:30.
