N.D. (NewsDakota.com) All five Griggs County Commissioners were swept out of office in a recall on Tuesday.

John Wakefield defeated Commissioner Ron Halvorson, Shawn Steffen beat Commissioner Ronnie Edland. Ron Dahl received more votes than Commissioner Dennis Halvorson. Troy Olson beat Commissioner Keith Monson and Dale Pedersen defeated Commissioner Robert Johnson in the recall.

Griggs County Auditor Cynthia Anton says the recall results will not be official until canvassing is completed on Monday, October 14.

Griggs County residents were upset with the commission approved a plan to build a new courthouse despite voters rejecting the idea once and also rejecting a plan to renovate the existing courthouse twice in three separate elections.

The commission voted last spring to build a $3.5 million courthouse and emergency operations center. Commissioners cited health issues like mold and structural  problems with the historic building.

Meanwhile construction on the new courthouse continues in Cooperstown.
