N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council held their monthly public meeting on October 7th, 2013. It was a very busy meeting with many things being discussed, debated and tabled.

Below are some highlights as well as comments made by Mayor Katie Anderson about certain topics that were focused on in the meeting.

The second reading for the new ordinance pertaining to the regulation of sexually oriented businesses of adult cabarets and escort services was read and discussed. Following a unanimous approval by the Council, the ordinance passed. A few stated concerns and others commended the Council for remaining vigilant through the negotiations of the ordinance. Mayor Anderson also reminded everyone that there still is no interest in establishing any sort of adult business in Jamestown up to this point.

Mayor Katie Anderson spoke of the difficulties of passing the ordinance as well as outlines of the ordinance.

The City Council also had a second reading on the appropriation of the Revenue and Special Funds for the fiscal year of January 1, 2014 through December 31st, 2014. It was approved unanimously by the Council. With the approval comes an increase to utility rates for the City.

Mayor Anderson talks about rate increases the City can expect to see next year.

There was also a vote to consider entering into a three way agreement between the City of Jamestown, Great River Energy, and Stutsman Rural Water District for the City to provide process water to the proposed Dakota Spirit AgEnergy Bio-refinery. It was approved, but not before some questions were answered.

Mayer Anderson talked about what the agreement would entail.

When asked if giving water to this plant would affect the City of Jamestown, specifically around summer with water restrictions in place, Mayor Anderson answered that the City is prepared for this.
