N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown Department of Music will present a Homecoming Concert featuring the Wind Ensemble, Big Orange Pep Band, Chapel Choir and Concert Choir at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11. The event is free and open to the public.

The Friends of the Fine Arts will provide refreshments at a pre-concert reception beginning at 7 p.m. in the Reiland Fine Arts Center Lobby.

The concert begins in DeNault Auditorium where the Wind Ensemble will perform “Albanian Dance,” “Schottische” from “Suite of Old American Dances,” an arrangement of an opera aria, and a circus march. The Big Orange Pep Band will also give their official public debut at the concert.

“The newly established and energetic pep band will perform some standard, classic rock tunes that will be sure to get the crowd pumped up for the game on Saturday,” says Dr. Laura Zamzow, Director of Bands.

The concert then moves to Voorhees Chapel where the Chapel Choir, the University’s women’s choir, will perform works including John Rutter’s “For the Beauty of the Earth” and Rollo Dilworth’s “Jordan’s Angels.”

The concert concludes with the Concert Choir performing works including “I Will Greatly Rejoice” by Knut Nystedt and Larry Fleming’s “Lord of the Dance.” All choir alumni are invited to join the choir on the risers in singing the final selection, “Praise to the Lord” by F. Melius Christiansen. The choirs perform under the direction of Aaron McDermid, Director of Choral Activities.
