CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City State University Vikings had another rough weekend on the volleyball court dropping two straight matches.
On Friday night the Vikings hosted Briar Cliff University at Graichen Gym. It was a tough contest as both traded points in the first game. However, it would be the Chargers who earned the first victory 25-22 in the opening bout. Briar Cliff took control of the second game behind the net play of Monica Boeding, who finished the night’s events with 13 kills. After defeating VCSU 25-9 in game two, the Chargers would earn the match victory with a 25-18 win in game three.
The next day, the Vikings would hit the road where they would meet up with Dakota Wesleyan at Mayville State University. When the match started it looked like the Vikings had overcome their problems from the night before, taking the first two games of the contest with 25-18 scores. Despite another strong night from Aurissa Martens, who tallied 14 kills in the match, the Vikings could not hold on to their two game lead. The Tigers duo of Marissa Soderberg and Taylor Spence took over the match combining for 23 kills on the afternoon, and leading Dakota Wesleyan to wins of 25-19, 25-14, and 15-13 in the final three matches.
The back to back losses drop the Vikings record to 10-17 on the year. Valley City hits the road on Wednesday, October 9th when they travel to Dakota State University for a meeting with the 5-17 Trojans.
