(NewsDakota.com)  Once again it was a busy weekend for Cardinals sports teams, as the football, volleyball and cross country teams were in action.

CLASS A FOOTBALL, CARRINGTON 20  MILNOR/NORTH SARGENT 8

FRIDAY, OCT. 4TH

No. 5 Milnor/North Sargent traveled to No. 4 Carrington for a Region 1 battle at Stadium 76 last Friday night.  Running back Cole Ferguson would return a 73 yard kick return and rush for another touchdown to help the Cards beat the Bulldogs.  Carrington improves to 5-0 and 6-0 overall, Milnor/North Sargent drops to 4-1 and 4-2 overall. 

Both teams combined for only 238 yards of total offense on a chilly and rainy night.  Only three passes were attempted, all were incomplete, one by the Cardinals and two by the Bulldogs.

Junior running back Seth Abaurrea had 15 carries for 56 yards, Cole Ferguson had 5 carries for 24 yards and one touchdown plus a 73 yard kick return for the first touchdown of the game. 

The only scoring in the entire second half came in the third quarter when Seth Zink recovered a blocked punt and scored a touchdown.

Next up for No. 4 Carrington will be this Friday night at Hillsboro against Hillsboro/Central Valley.  Pregame can be heard on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com at 6:30pm, kickoff at 7pm. 

VOLLEYBALL, LAKOTA/ADAMS-EDMORE OVER CARRINGTON 3-1 (19-25, 24-26, 25-23, 13-25).  THURSDAY, OCT. 3

Carrington traveled up to Lakota to play the Raiders in High School Volleyball last Thursday night, the winner would clinch first place in District 7 and be the number one seed for the District 7 Tourney in New Rockford starting October 31.  The Cards would win only one set and fall to the Raiders 3-1.  Carrington drops to 3-1 and 15-5 overall, Lakota/AE improves to 8-0 and 16-6 overall.

Carrington had 37 kills, led by Jacey Engelhorn with 12 followed by Madison Wendel with 10.  They served only 81% with 15 service errors.  Kayla Hochhalter had four of the seven aces for Carrington.
