D.C. (NewsDakota.com) – Senator Heidi Heitkamp has announced that she will not be accepting payment for her duties until a bill to fund the Federal Government is passed.
In a statement Heitkamp released, she made the following announcement:
“House Republicans need to pass a clean bill to fund the federal government as soon as possible so federal services will resume, and employees can get back to work. During the shutdown of the federal government, I will donate my salary to a charity in North Dakota. Right now, federal workers across North Dakota and the country who chose to work in public service have been forced to go without pay – including my Senate staff. It’s only fair that I not receive a salary during that time as well. I hope House Republicans will agree to pass a clean bill to fund the federal government as soon as possible so that federal services will resume, and employees can come back to work.”
The government is currently in its second day of partial shutdown.
