CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A scam dubbed the “Grandson Scam” attempted on a Valley City woman was thwarted.

Police Chief Fred Thompson says in this case the woman questioned the legitimacy of the call and phoned the police department.

Thompson says the caller tried to obtain money from the women telling her that her grandson in Fargo could avoid jail time by paying a $1,000 to the owner of a car he struck in a traffic crash.

After an investigation, Thompson told the woman that the call was phony and that she was part of an scam attempt. Anyone with calls of this nature should call the Valley City police department at 845-3110 or your local law enforcement agency in the community nearest to you.
