CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) It was a happy Homecoming Friday night for Hi-Liner football fans.
John Halgrimson rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns, and Dustin Lindgren had 155 all-purpose yards and two scores as Valley City defeated Maple Valley/Enderlin 62-28 Friday at Hanna Field.
The Hi-Liners move to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the East Region of AA football. MVE falls to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in East Region play.
It was all Hi-Liners from the start Friday. Valley City’s offense scored on all five of its drives in the first half, building a 32-6 lead at the break. Halgrimson and Dustin Lindgren each scored two touchdowns in the first half.
The Falcons made it interesting with a wild third quarter. Turning to the pass, MVE quarterback Caid Combs completed two touchdowns to Dan Lindgren and a few big passes to Austin Dixson. Dacotah McGough then scored from nine yards out to get the Falcons back within 38-28 with 3:20 remaining in the third quarter.
A Hi-Liner fumble set MVE up with great field position and a chance to make it a one score game, but the Valley City defense came up with a fourth down stop to take over. Two plays later, Halgrimson busted a 51-yard touchdown run to regain the momentum for the Hi-Liners. Eli Allen returned an interception 35 yards for a score in the fourth quarter to all but put the game away.
Up next: Valley City hosts Kindred on Friday, Oct. 4. MVE hosts Lisbon on Oct. 4 in Enderlin.
