(NewsDakota.com) Miranda Peterson, a sophomore at Minnesota State University Moorhead, was crowned Miss Carrington 2014 at the eighteenth annual scholarship pageant held Saturday, September 21, in the Carrington Elementary Gymnasium. She received an 0 scholarship as well as the High Score Interview Award (0), the Munkeby Interview Award (0), and the Ralston Hi Score Swimsuit/Fitness Award (0). Her platform issue is “Positive Body Image” and her talent presentation was a vocal/piano solo, “A Thousand Miles”, by Vanessa Carlton. She was sponsored by Heartland Stitches and Randy’s Pro Shop of Carrington and is the daughter of Randy & Barb Peterson.
Bailey Schumann, a senior at Carrington High School, was crowned Miss Dakota Country 2014. She received an $800 scholarship as well as the High Score Evening Wear Award ($100) Her platform issue is “Leading the Way With Violence Prevention” and her talent presentation was an en pointe dance to ”Romance” by Chopin. She was sponsored by Century 21, and is the daughter of Shane & Alison Schumann.
A total of eight contestants competed, here are their results.
Andrea Nicole Braaten, a freshman at the University of North Dakota, was awarded a participation scholarship ($400), the Runner-up Award ($100) as well as the KatieJo Gussiaas High School Scholar Award ($100).
Carlie Meehan, a student at Bismarck State College, was awarded a participation scholarship ($400), The Runner-up Award ($100) as well as the High Score Talent Award ($100).
MaKayla Schroeder, a sophomore at Minnesota State University Moorhead, was awarded an participation scholarship ($400), the College Scholar Award ($100) as well as the People’s Choice Award ($115).
Paige Thomas, a sophomore at Minnesota State University Moorhead, was awarded a participation scholarship ($400).
Heather Shimelfenig, a freshman at Dakota College at Bottineau, was awarded a participation scholarship ($400).
Shauna Fetch, a freshman at North Dakota State University, was awarded a participation scholarship ($400).
Over $5000 in scholarship dollars were awarded to the eight contestants.
Miss Carrington and Miss Dakota Country will represent the city and region at the Miss North Dakota Scholarship Pageant in June of 2014.
