CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) On Satruday afternoon the Valley City Hi-Liners Cross Country team hosted the Bill Jansen Blue and White Invite.
The event was run at Bjornson Park and consisted of over 50 high school and junior high teams. Over 1200 athletes participated in the race. The site will also host this year’s State Championship Race, so many teams were using the race to get a preview of the course.
The Hi-Liners did the same. Running against both Class A and B schools, Valley City had a strong showing. Casey Engelhard led the way for the boys team finishing the 5K course with a personal best time of 18:22 and a 55th place finish. Just a few minutes behind his teammate, Nathan Johnson finished 118th over all.
The highest finish on the day for Valley City came from the girls team, Mikaylah Ross also posted a personal best time, finishing the girl’s course in 16:33 good enough for a 44th place finish. Ross and her teammates finished the event 14th out of 27 teams.
The day was a success for all who were involved, especially Bismarck High who took the Boys team championship, and Century who accomplished the same task on the girl’s course.
