(NewsDakota.com) It was a busy weekend for Carrington Cardinal players and fans as the football, volleyball and cross country teams were all in action. Here are the results:
FRIDAY , SEPT. 20th, CLASS 1A FOOTBALL:
CARRINGTON 50 ELLENDALE/EDGELEY/KULM 0
The number four team in the state right now, the Carrington Cardinals remain undefeated (4-0) as they rolled over the Thunder in Region 1 action. The score at halftime was 13-0 Cards, Carrington would score 37 points in the second half and hold EEK scoreless the entire game. Quarterback Brady Smith connected with Riley Miller for a 45-yard touchdown pass. Smith completed four of six passes for 81 yards for Carrington. Junior runningback Seth Abaurrea rushed 6 times for 112 yards. Both Cole Ferguson and Jacob Fandrich rushed for a touchdown apiece.
Next up for Carrington is this Friday night for Homecoming against Region 1 Northern Cass (1-2, 1-3 overall). Pregame can be heard on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com at 6:30pm and 7pm kickoff.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 21st, VALLEY CITY OPTIMIST VOLLEYBALL TOURNEY AT THE VALLEY CITY HIGH SCHOOL. 24 TEAMS COMPETED.
The Carrington Cardinals started the morning at 8am last Saturday in pool play against Fargo Davies JV. Carrington beat Fargo Davies JV 2-0 (25-17, 25-8). In the second game in pool play, Carrington defeated Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page 2-0 (25-15, 25-22), and in the last pool game, Carrington beat Richland 2-0 (25-9, 25-12). That put Carrington into the Championship bracket in the afternoon and the number one seed from pool D.
Carrington defeated Hillsboro-Central Valley 2-0 (25-17, 25-9), lost to Central Cass 2-0 (17-25, 12-25) and played Valley City for third place. Valley City beat the Cards 2-0 (22-25, 28-30).
The Championship went to Central Cass as they beat LaMoure 2-0 (25-7, 25-19).
The Cardinals win a total of four games, lose two and finish in fourth place, their overall record is 12-4.
Next up for Carrington Volleyball is tomorrow night in McVille against Dakota Prairie. Pregame can be heard on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com starting around 7pm, first serve about 7:15pm.
SATURDAY, SEPT 21st, BILL JANSEN BLUE-WHITE CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL AT VALLEY CITY
Ashley Neumiller of Carrington placed in the individual top 25 with a time of 15:38, which was good for 12th place. The Carrington girls team placed 17th with 560 and the Carrington boys team placed 16th with 529. The Card boys didn’t have anybody place in the top 25 during the tournament.
Next up for the Cross Country team will be this Thursday in Casselton.
