William Lauber, 88, of Jamestown, ND, died Friday, September 20, 2013 at Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.

     William John Lauber was born on September 24, 1924 in Jamestown, the son of Nels and Katherine (Keller) Lauber.  He was raised and attended St. John’s Academy in Jamestown, graduating from Jamestown High School in 1943.  One week after graduating, he joined the United States Navy where he served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.  Following his discharge in 1946, he lived in Idaho and then returned to Jamestown where he married Alvina Dorothy Hoffmann on December 4, 1947.  He returned to active duty with the US Navy, serving from 1951-1952 in Korea.  After returning to Jamestown, Bill worked for Knoll Construction and then as a fireman and an engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad.

     Bill was a member of St. James Basilica, the American Legion, and the United Transportation Union.  He was an active member of the Cecil Tracy Post 760 V.F.W., serving through the chairs, secretary of the Cooties, and with the Honor Guard for many years.  He enjoyed fishing, bowling, shooting pool and spending the winter in Arizona.

     Survived by his wife, Dorothy Lauber, Jamestown; daughter, Catherine (Larry) Tollefson, Mandan, ND; three grandchildren, Jon (Doreen) Lauber and their family, Michelle Lauber and her family, Beth (Rob) Hillenbrand and their family; one brother, Francis E. (Phyllis) Lauber; and many nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Lauber; and grandson, Robert Tollefson.

     Eucharist of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND.

     Visitation: 1:00p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday, September 23, 2013 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND.

     Vigil: 7:30 p.m., Monday, September 23, 2013 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.

     Interment: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
