N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Law enforcement agencies and farmers who took part in the search of a cornfield for an escaped prisoner near Valley City nearly two years ago have settled with a California transport company for ,000.

The U-S Attorney’s office negotiated the settlement with “Extradition Transport of America.” Joseph Megna escaped from a transport van from a rest stop near Oriska on October 4 2011.

Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin says his department will receive 34-hundred dollars.

Barnes County farmers used combines to flush Megna out of the cornfield. The Cass County Sheriff’s office will also receive reimbursement for its search related efforts and the transport company will pay a $10-thousand dollar fine.
