CITY, N.D, (NewsDakota.com) The long weekend started out well for the Vikings after winning back the Paint Bucket in a 31-14 win over Jamestown on Saturday afternoon.

Just two days later the team received the news that they had swept the player of the week honors in the North Star Athletic Association. VCSU took all three categories with their strong play on offense, defense, and special teams.

Vikings Junior, linebacker, Austin Flores, earned the acknowledgement on defense. Against Jamestown, the Waipahu, Hawaii native had four solo tackles, eight assists on tackles, one interception and two forced fumble

On the offensive side of the ball, it was Freshman quarterback Kurtis Walls who earned NSAA player of the week honors. In his first game as a Viking, Walls threw two touchdown passes and finished the game throwing for 194 yards.

Rounding out the sweep was Thomas Cortez on special teams. The Vikings Kicker went 4-4 on extra points and hit a 25-yard-kick to cap the victory over the Jimmies.  

Valley City is on the road again this week, as they travel to Sioux City, Iowa for a match up with the NAIA’s top ranked team, the Morningside College Mustangs. Game time is scheduled for 7pm on Saturday night. You can hear the game on 1490AM.
