Kinzler, 77, of Oakes, ND, passed away August 27, 2013 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, SD.
Eugene Wallace Kinzler was born on June 24, 1936 at home in Logan County in North Dakota. He attended a country school through the 8th grade; and then attended High School in Gackle, North Dakota, where he was active in sports. He loved to play football and his position was a running back. He graduated from Gackle High School in 1955, and that fall he attended the Normal Industrial College in Ellendale, North Dakota, which was always referred to as the NI. Eugene graduated with a Bachelors degree in Math and Science, and later earned his Mastors degree in Chemistry.
On October 25, 1958 Eugene married Daphne Oswald, and to this union they were blessed with two sons, Glenn and Steven.
He taught his first year in Fullerton, North Dakota before moving to Wishek, North Dakota for two years, only to return to Fullerton and teach for fifteen years. He had a Masters Degree in Chemistry, and he taught Math and Science. He accepted a teaching position at Hulett, Wyoming for a short time, before moving his family back to North Dakota and settling himself and his family in Oakes.
God opened a door for him to sell Nodak Mutual Insurance, which he did for 25 years. He loved working and visiting with people. He was a people person and upon retiring, he found that he missed the communication with his clients.
Eugene was active in the Grace Lutheran Church ELCA of Oakes. He loved to hunt and fish, and he truly loved ice fishing, even though he fell through the ice one time. He loved to go deer hunting and he built a portable deer stand that he could pull around where ever he wanted to be. He also built a stationary one out at the farm where if he and his friends were lucky, they would get their deer. Eugene loved to watch football on TV and was a Vikings fan for many years, even though they didn’t win many games. He loved to attend auction sales and would purchase old fishing equipment which he collected. Eugene loved his family and his grandchildren meant the world to him. He always felt a need to see his grandchildren and wouldn’t let too much time lapse in between.
He leaves behind his wife, Daphne Kinzler; two sons, Glenn Kinzler and Steven Kinzler; grandchildren, Caleb Kinzler, Jalina Kinzler and Kyla Kinzler; his brother, Gordon (Luella) Kinzler; and his sister, Sheila (Paul) Huber. Eugene was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Kinzler, his father, William Kinzler and his younger brother, Kenneth Kinzler.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 1, 2013 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 5:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Oakes.
