James (Jim) Edward Lacina, 63 of Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2013 surrounded by his loving family, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.

James Edward Lacina was born to Alvin and Florence (Sommers) Lacina on March 10, 1950 in LaMoure, North Dakota. He grew up south of Berlin & attended high school in Edgeley, graduating in 1968.

Jim loved all sports and had a special passion for football and wrestling. He passed that passion for sports onto his children and grandchildren. He was overjoyed on the sidelines & it wasn’t uncommon to hear his voice over the crowd. He was the first teacher of music to his children making sure they had a good balance of the Bee Gees, Carpenters, Neil Diamond, country, disco and rock-n-roll.

Jim married Mary Porter on June 24th, 1972. They were blessed with six children, residing just north of Grand Rapids, North Dakota. He taught all his kids to hunt & fish. Each one of them could field dress a deer & clean bullheads. Jim was sure to assign nicknames to every person he loved. His grandkids assigned him “grandpa tootsie pop” (“grandpa sucker” for short) as he always had special treats for them.

Over the years playing pinochle & Bingo, Jim adopted a second family of friends that genuinely enjoyed his gift of gab. Each one can recall one of the stories he told.

He is survived by six children: Lonnie (Erin), Darcy (Ross) Seefeld, Ben (Kristi), Daron, Kristi (Michael) Gilbert, Ashley (James) Glynn; eighteen grandchildren: Tane, Brynn, Codilynn, Blake, Nick, Hannah, Justin, Brett, Ian, Fallon, Paxton, Cody, Clayton, Isabel, Conner, Porter, Harper & Katie Ann & many grand puppies; one brother, Fred (Barb) Lacina, two sisters Deanna (Robert) Hardtke & Bonnie (Carl) Ahlquist; nieces and nephews: Jeanine, Elliott (Melissa), Diron (Cheryl), Pat (Lora), Dawn (Scott), Richard (Kassie), Debra (Dustin), Rebecca (Jed) & Tami (Jeff); & several great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by one sister, Jeanine, & his parents.

Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley, ND.

     Interment: Berlin Cemetery, Berlin, ND.
