CITY, MT (NewsDakota.com)- It was the first college football game in America when the Jimmies took the field Friday night against Rocky Mountain College. But the Battlin’ Bears are the only team in America with a winning record. RMC walked away with a 34-20 victory in a hot and sticky environment.
The Jimmies failed to convert on their opening drive, punting after going 3 and out. Following that the Bears went on a 12-play drive to score the first touchdown.
Beau Eriksson and Co. answered with a long sustain drive of their own capped off with a 13-yard touchdown to Jacob Erbes. The first of three Eriksson touchdown tosses.
Jamestown nabbed the lead with a 19-yard pass to Casey Glenn, 13-6.
On the ensuing drive, Bryce Baker threw his first of two interceptions setting up the Jimmies at the RMC 44.
Jamestown was unable to convert and from that point Rocky took over. Scoring the next 28 points to put the game away before the third quarter was over.
Jamestown had a chance to slow momentum when Eriksson threw a deep pass to a wide-open Trent Roemmich, but he couldn’t bring in the pass.
Eriksson added a late touchdown pass with a completion to Jared Williamson for three yards. He finished 29-45 for 259 yards and three touchdowns.
Jamestown will host Valley City St. next Saturday at Rollie Greeno Field in a battle for the paint bucket.
