(NewsDakota.com) Four out of eight teams remain in the 2013 State Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament, both the host team Carrington and Velva were eliminated on Saturday and Beulah and Thompson were eliminated yesterday. Here are the final results from day three of the five day tourney.
Rolette/Rolla 2 Beulah 1
Another great pitching performance in the tourney, this time by Rolette/Rolla’s Dalton Poitra, as he goes the complete seven innings, six strikeouts, one walk, two hits and was the Leading Edge Equipment player of the game. Beulah’s only run came in the first inning when Alec Battest hit a triple knocking in Devin Sardelli from first. The only other player to get a hit against Poitra, was shortstop Aaron Vallejo who singled in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Rolette/Rolla had only three hits in the contest, the lead-off batter Jalen Pfeifer had a single, Seth Vivier had an RBI double in the first and Jake Loing got his first hit in the tourney, a single in the top of the third. Braydon Nelson took the loss for Beulah, he went three innings, 1 strikout, two walks and allowed two hits. Sardelli relieved him in the fourth, he worked four innings and three strikeouts.
Valley City 5 Thompson 1
Valley City faced their second elimination game of the tournament taking on Thompson in the third day of action.
As they had the day before, Valley City would look to Nate Rodriguez to help them earn a victory, but this time he would have to do it on the mound. Striking out eight batters he allowed no runs thorough five innings of play. He was helped out by an all-around solid bating performance from his team. Valley finished the day at the plate with just one strike out in the entire game. They also tallied five runs on four RBI’s.
Jesse Johnson came on in relief of Rodriguez in the sixth inning, and allowed just one run to the first batter he faced. He ended the day by striking out the side bringing his total of the day to four. Valley City defeated Thompson 5-1 and now advances to day four of the State Tournament.
Dakota Prairie 12 Kindred 4
These two teams came into today not having lost a game yet. Now it is just Dakota Prairie who remains undefeated after a 12-4 win.
The Knights earned the victory taking advantage of Kindred’s mistakes, after a number of errors lead to 7 runs scored in the fourth and fifth innings. Dakota Prairie’s Jon Lund had a strong performance on the mound, but was probably even more impressive at the plate. The Knights Pitcher finished the game with two hits and two RBI’s.
The 12-4 win means that Dakota Prairie will receive a day off. Their next game will be the State Championship played Tuesday at 3:30pm
Two games are on the schedule for Monday afternoon at 1pm, Rolette/Rolla VS Valley City, and Kindred VS the winner of the days first game at 3:30.
