(NewsDakota.com)  The day started knowing that two teams would end their season today in the first two loser out games.  Followed by the quarterfinals in the afternoon at Carrington City Park. Here are the results:

Rolette/Rolla 5  Velva 4

Jalen Pfeifer of Rolette/Rolla would strikeout 15 batters, walk two, allow one hit and go the distance to help get the victory over Velva.  Shad Vedaa led off the game with a single, but that would be the only hit Jalen Pfeifer would allow in seven innings work.  District 1 Velva ends their season at 17-9 overall.  

Seth Vivier for Rolette/Rolla was 2-for-3 at the plate, Jalen Pfeifer had a triple and was 1-for-4.  Shad Vedaa was the losing pitcher for Velva, he had five strikeouts, two walks and allowed seven hits.

Valley City 9  Carrington 6

In the second game today, with the score tied at four apiece in the fourth, Nate Rodriguez hit a grand slam and put Valley up 8-4.  The grand slam was to left-center field and was hit about 340 feet, it was the first home-run in the tourney.  Rodriguez finished 2-for-3 at the plate, with five RBI.  Shortstop Jesse Johnson of Valley City was 2-for-4 with two bunt singles.

Connor Wendel was 3-for-4 for Carrington with a triple.  Braxton Hewitt and Brett Lyman were both 2-for-3 at the plate.  Hewitt took the lost, he went five innings, had six strikouts, three walks and allowed three hits.  Dalton Ondracek was the winning pitcher, going five innings, walked four, gave up eight hits and three strikeouts. 

Carrington finishes their season at 15-11.

Dakota Prairie 6  Thompson 0

Game 3 of the day featured Thompson and Dakota Prairie, and it was a pitcher’s duel between Thompson’s Calen Schwabe and Dakota Prairie’s Jayden Grover.

Neither side could buy a run until Dakota Prairie’s Gavin Tweed scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning. It was all that Dakota Prairie would need to claim the victory, although they added 5 more runs in the fifth and sixth innings. 

Grover was solid for Dakota Prairie striking out 9 Thompson batter, allowing just 3 hits, and allowing no runs in a complete game. Dakota Prairie’s 6-0 win means they will advance to the tournament’s semi-finals played tomorrow at 5pm.

 Kindred 5  Beulah 4

The final game of the night pitted Beulah against Kindred. After battling back and forth for the lead throughout the game, it was Kindred who came away with the 5-4 victory.

Both teams were solid at the plate hitting anything in the strike zone. Combined, there were just 9 strike outs in the game. The scoring got started in the first inning when Beulah’s Josh Remmick hit a 2 RBI single that scored Adam Becker and Mikey Morris. Later in the inning, Alec Battest would cross the plate adding a third run. Keeping the game close, Kindred was able to score one run in the bottom of the inning. Both sides would add one more run to the scoreboard in the second, but it was Beulah who held 4-2 advantage.

Although Kindred left runners stranded at third base in three different innings, they were able to creep back into the game with a run from Josh Dura in the third inning. Kindred then found their stride in the sixth, when Zack Cossette tied the game, scoring from third base when Beulah’s pitcher Remmick was called for a baulk. Shortly after that, Brock Benson scored from third when Josh Dura hit a single up the middle. 

The 5-4 win means that Kindred will play Dakota Prairie in the tournament semi-final tomorrow at 5pm.

Games will start at 12pm Sunday, with Rolette/Rolla against Beulah, followed by Valley City VS Thompson, at 5pm it will be Dakota Prairie VS Kindred.
