(NewsDakota.com) Four teams remain in the quest to represent Section 2 at the State Class B American Legion Tournament in Beulah next week, while two teams saw their season come to an end during Thursday’s action at the Section 2 Tournament at Sandager Park in Lisbon
Lisbon 7 Carrington 5
The score was tied at one going into the the bottom of the fourth inning, when Lisbon scored four runs. Carrington came right back and scored four runs of their own to tie it at 5 apiece. Brady Smith of Post 25 would hit a two RBI double and Patrick Freeman had an RBI as well.
After an intentional walk to Nathan Mangin in the bottom of the sixth inning, Jace Berg of Lisbon Post 7 hit a two RBI double to put Lisbon up by two 7-5. That’s all Post 7 would need as Derek Lyons relieved Wyatt Aberle in the seventh for the save. Aberle was the winning pitcher for Lisbon, Logan Clifton took the loss.
Tyler Mittleider was 2-for-4 with two RBI at the plate for Lisbon. Taylor Skytland went 2-for-3 with a walk for Carrington.
Kidder County/Steele 21 Ellendale 3 (5 innings)
In the second game of the day, Kidder County Post 231 sent 16 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning and went on to defeat Ellendale Post 30. Ellendale was outscored in the tournament 33-3. Wyatt Hiene took the loss for Ellendale, going two-thirds on an inning, giving up five walks, three hits and six runs. Nick Thomas for Kidder County went all five innings and picked up the win.
Ellendale pitching gave up 11 walks and 11 hits. Ryan Sand for Kidder County was 4-for-5, six RBI and a double. The first five hitters for Kidder County hit for extra bases at least once. Jayden Miller, the lead-off batter, was 1-for-1 with a triple and three walks.
Wishek 14 Carrington 7
Wishek scored the first two five runs of the game, until Carrington answered with three of their own in the third. Post 25 came back to tie the game at 7, but Wishek pulled away in dramatic fashion with seven runs in the final two innings on five hits to send Post 87 to Friday’s play.
Mikey Jacobson earned the win for Wishek, throwing a perfect two and a third innings. Logan Clifton took the loss for Carrington. Tucker Meidinger registered a single, double and three runs scored in the victory, while Peter Henson had a single, triple and two runs scored in the loss.
Kidder County/Steele 6 Oakes 2
In the final game of the day, Oakes struck first with two runs off of Travis Baumiller. Those two runs were the only runs Oakes would earn in the contest.
The game was tied at two until Steele scored three runs in the fifth to pull alway. Two triples and two runs scored by Jayden Miller, along with a double and a run scored by Ryan Sand were the keys in Post 231’s victory against Post 36.
Baumiller was the winning pitcher with six hits and five strikeouts. Cole Kelly took the loss for Oakes, going four and two third innings, allowing five runs on five hits and three strikeouts.
Friday’s play starts at 2 p.m with LaMoure and Lisbon. The winner advances to the Championship round on Saturday. Loser-out play commences at 4:30 p.m. with Steele and Wishek. The winner plays the loser of LaMoure/Lisbon 35 minutes after.
