CITY, N.D.(NewsDakota.com) Four games are in the books after day one of the Class B Section One Tournament. Wednesday started with Valley City defeating Lidgerwood 3-0 behind a strong pitching performance from Jaden Keys, who struck out 9 and kept Lidgerwood off the board.
As a reward for winning the opening game, Valley City would return to action for a match up with Kindred in the late afternoon. V.C. Jumped out to the early start going up 2-0. In the sixth it appeared Valley had added to that lead when Ben Baasch touched home plate, but shortly after Kindred would check him at third, and the umpire would call Baasch out for missing the base. This paved the way for a Kindred Come Back.
After scoring a run in the sixth, Kindred would keep Valley City off the board in the top of the Seventh with three quick outs. Josh Lingen led off the final inning for Kindred with a single, and later was driven home on an RBI from Tanner Thompson. After hitting into a fielder’s choice, Christian Danielson became the lone runner left on base with two out. That’s when Austin Olien struck the final blow that drove home Danielson, giving Kindred the 3-2 victory. The win marks the third time in a month that Kindred has defeated Valley City by a score of two runs or less in a game.
The night was capped off with the host team Enderlin taking on Great Bend. Enderlin put up five runs in the first inning, and just kept going. While Great Bend was able to pull back to within four, they would eventually fall to the home team in six innings by a score of 16-6.
