(NewsDakota.com)- Jamestown will play a double-header tonight against Mandan, but last nights pair against Fargo are the last conference games of the season. Fargo was able to take both games by scores of 3-2 and 10-2.
The first game was an old fashioned pitchers duel. Casey Quinlan, the Fargo starter, is thought by many to be one of the top-two pitchers in the state and he locked up against Post 14’s Brian Wenzel. Wenzel, who will be a junior at JHS this fall, has put together quite a spring/summer with some big wins including beating West Fargo’s Camran Bonnema last week.
Fargo scored two runs in the first inning off of Wenzel both of which were unearned following a Nick Fuchs error at shortstop. Lincoln Voss and Joe Hallock came up with two-out singles to give Post 2 the early lead.
Jamestown was able to get two runs off of Quinlan in the third innings via a pair of walks, an infield single, a pass ball and a wild pitch. Quinlan and Wenzel matched zeros into the eight inning, when Seth Tollefson’s walk-off single won it for Post 2.
Quinlan struck out 14 Post 14 batters and Jamestown was unable to get any balls in play out of the infield. Both their hits were infield singles.
In game two, Fargo nabbed the early lead scoring three times off of Tyler Ukestad in the opening frame en route to a 10-2 win. Ukestad yielded six of the runs, while Riley Schafer gave up the other four.
Post 2 used three different pitchers to shutdown Jamestown, including Shanley product Lincoln Voss who pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
Jamestown will finish up the regular season today against Mandan, but they will not count in the state standings. Post 14 finishes the state season 8-10 and are currently 20-18 overall.
State tournament begins Tuesday in West Fargo, Jamestown will be the #7-seed and have a first round match-up with #10 Mandan. First pitch estimated 8pm on Tuesday night, the broadcast will be on 1400 KQDJ.
