(NewsDakota.com) Out of the four games that took place during the opening round of the 2013 North Dakota Class B Section 2 American Legion Baseball Tournament, only one of them managed to go the full seven innings. The other three, although finishing around the same time it took to play the first one, were greatly one-sided affairs.

Oakes 5 Wishek 3

In the first game of the day, Post 36 struck first in the opening inning with three runs. Oakes added another run in each the third and sixth innings. Post 87 did not break the scoreboard until the fifth inning, but only managed a run in the final three frames.

Bryce Meeh earned the win for Oakes (6-7) lasting all seven innings allowing two earned runs on seight hits. Meehl scored three runs and had a double. Despite striking out 12 batters, Adam Jacobson was the losing pitcher for Post 87 (5-8). Matt Gross managed the only extra-base hit.

Carrington 13 Kidder County/Steele 1 (5 innings)

Game two featured a blistering four run start from Post 25 that Post 231 could never recover from. Post 231 was able to score their single run in the fourth, but Post 25 added another eight runs in the bottom portion of the inning to pull away.

Peter Henson had a triple and a single for Carrington (10-3) along with two runs scored. Ben Steinholfson had an RBI single for Kidder County/Steele (3-10) but was the losing pitcher giving up 10 earned runs on nine hits. Patrick Freeman was the winning pitcher striking out six and not allowing an earned run.

LaMoure 12 Oakes 2 (6 innings)

The third game was quite competitive, with Post 36 scoring their first run against LaMoure this season to start the contest. However, Post 19 tied the game in the bottom part of the inning and never looked back; scoring two runs in the second, another three in the fourth, one in the fifth and five in the sixth to earn the 10 run win.

Brady Theilges was the winning pitcher, striking out eight batters and allowing just two runs on eight hits. Jon Tyre, in his return from having a cast removed around his hand, pitched formidably in four innings of work. Tyre surrendered three earned runs on six hits.

LaMoure’s (12-1) Parker Stemen scored three times and had a couple of hits, while Oakes’ (6-8) Kaleb Sell had two hits and two runs scored.

Lisbon 12 Ellendale 0 (5 innings)

The final game was all the home team, as Lisbon poured out the offense in the second inning with seven runs on five hits. Post 7’s defense and pitcher was stellar as well.

Jace Berg coughed up just two hits and a walk while striking out five. Nathan Mangin had two doubles and two runs scored in the Lisbon (10-3) victory. Ellendale (0-13) saw Adam White hit with the loss on the mound; four innings, 11 earned runs and nine hits.

Thursday’s play starts at 11:30 a.m. with Lisbon and Carrington in a winner’s bracket game. Around 2 p.m, it’s loser-out play between Steele and Ellendale. At 4:30, Wishek will face the loser of Lisbon/Carrington in another loser-out game, and at around 6 p.m. Oakes will take on the winner of Steele/Ellendale, also a loser-out contest.
