(NewsDakota.com)- The Jamestown legion teams defeated one of the best teams in Minnesota Saturday night for the championship of the Post 14 Invite at Jack Brown Stadium. Brian Wenzel worked seven strong innings to knock off Coon Rapids 6-3.
Anthony Cook drove in a pair of fifth inning runs to tie the game at two, before Landon Weiser scored on a Riley Schafer single to break the tie.
In the sixth inning, Jamestown took control on a two-run single by Schafer and an RBI from Brady Anderson, who earlier in the day hit a three-run homer in a 12-0 win over Moorhead.
The tournament was suppose to go into Sunday, but Omaha never showed up and didn’t give tournament officials any sort of notice. That forced a shorten weekend with the championship being played on Saturday night.
Post 14 plays six games in three days this week. Tuesday is the home finale with Minot, Wednesday is a conference doubleheader at Fargo, and then they wrap up the regular season Thursday with a pair in Mandan. The only two that count in the conference standings will be Wednesday’s games in Fargo.
We will have coverage of Wednesday’s games in Fargo with a first pitch at 5pm on 1400 KQDJ.
