their last games before the District Six tournament, Valley City traveled to Steele for a double header.

The first game was a league match up, and started in Valley City’s favor. Jordan Magnuson hit a three run homer to top off the first inning with a 4-0 Valley City lead. Nate Rodriguez helped the cause for the V.C. Babe Ruth squad, driving in three runs with two hits.

Valley City held on tight, but lost their grip on the game when Steele’s offense scored 12 runs in the final two innings. The final score of game one ended with Steele on top 18-17.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Lance Lukes was pleased with his team saying, “This was a crazy game, with many highs and lows throughout the game, and it came down to who got to hit last.  The boys played hard and can’t ask more than that from them.”

Game two was a much different contest. Valley City could not find their offense. Dalton Ondracek hit the lone RBI for Valley in the fifth inning. When the game came to an end, it was Steele once again who earned the win. This time by a score of 8-1.

Valley City heads into the District Six tournament this weekend with a regular season record of 24-6-1. Tournament play begins Saturday July 20th, at LaMoure.
