(NewsDakota.com) The contest between the Oakes Post 36 and Lisbon Post 7 American Legion baseball teams at Cummings Field in Oakes on Tuesday night had only one resemblance to the previous matchup on June 20; Lisbon won the game.
Both Bryce Meehl and Wyatt Aberle took to the mound again for Oakes and Lisbon respectfully, but in the end it was the relieve pitchers who played the crucial role in Lisbon’s 6-5 victory. Cole Kelly allowed two runs on four hits in his two innings of work, whereas Derek Lyons retired Oakes in order in the seventh inning, including two strikeouts, to earn the save.
Aberle is now 2-0 in Section 2 games this year against Post 36 (4-7 Section 2). He went six innings, allowing all five runs with seven strikeouts to his credit. Meehl earned a no-decision going five innings, allowing four runs and struck out nine.
Lyons was the main cog offensively for Post 7 (9-3 Section 2) with a triple, double and four RBI. Ethan Zetocha had the best day at the plate for Post 36 with a double, two singles, and two runs scored.
Oakes’ final game in Section 2 play for the 2013 regular season is Thursday evening in Wishek against Post 87. First pitch is set for 5:30, with coverage commencing at 5:15 on KDDR and NewsDakota.com
