CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Five people were injured after a bus carrying 14 passengers went off the road and into a field while the driver was attempting to exit off Interstate 94 in Valley City Monday around 5am.

The bus driver, 46-year-old Stephen Arthur of Duluth told police, he lost control of the vehicle after the brakes failed. 5 people were transported to Mercy Hospital in Valley City and treated for minor injuries. The accident remains under investigation.

Jefferson Lines Company spokesman Kevin Pursey tells The Associated Press that the bus was recently inspected and it’s doubtful the brakes failed. The bus was traveling to Minneapolis.

About two months ago, passengers on a Jefferson Lines bus escaped uninjured when the bus’s engine caught fire near Williston.
