Duane Ardell Hedland was born May 12th, 1936 in Kindred, ND to David and Bernice (Stevens) Hedland. Duane grew up in Englevale, ND and then the family moved to Igloo, SD, he graduated from Provo (SD) High School in 1955.

     He joined the Air Force at 19 and served his country for 4 years, with an additional 5 years in The National Guard. He was first based in South Carolina where he met and married the love of his life Jeanie (Pate) Hedland.

     Duane had many jobs in life, including working with Rustad’s in Kindred, cross country truck driving, and for the last ten years driving the South Central Senior bus in Valley City, a job he cherished.

     Duane died July 11, 2013 at his home. He is survived by three daughters and one son; Lori King (Shane Furcht), Lynn Stasch (Bernie), Lisa Baasch (Donald) and Henry Hedland (Jordan Krueger), 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, one brother Robert (Carolyn) and one sister Marlys Fox (Joe); and many nieces and nephews.

     He is preceded in death by his father David, his mother Bernice, stepfather Henry and sister Betty Ann.

     The family would like thank the staff of Bridgeview Estates for everything that they have done for us. Special thanks goes to Hospice of Mercy Home Care of Valley City, providing comfort and support through his last days.

     The funeral service for Duane will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Grace Free Lutheran Church, Valley City. Burial will be in Norman Cemetery, Kindred, and ND.

     Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. A prayer service will be held there beginning at 7:00. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
