N.D. (AP) – Memorial services have been set in Bismarck and Fargo for former North Dakota first lady Jean Guy who died Friday, she was 90.

Jean Guy was the wife of Governor William Guy, who was North Dakota’s longest-serving governor from 1961 to 1973. He died in April from complications of Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 93.

The memorial services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Bismarck and Thursday at 1:30 p.m at First Presbyterian Church in Fargo.

North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp said, “My thoughts and prayers are with the Guy family during this difficult time. Bill would be the first one to say he would not have been able to accomplish what he did for North Dakota if it weren’t for Jean. Through her entire life, she had a steadfast commitment to her family and improving the lives of North Dakotans.”

Heitkamp added, “As First Lady of North Dakota, she inspired me and countless others throughout the state with her intellect, kindness, and dedication to public service. As I said recently when Governor Guy passed, we lost a giant in North Dakota. On July, 5 we lost another one, but we will all strive to continue her advocacy of policies that will improve the lives of North Dakotans.”
