(NewsDakota.com)- The Bismarck Governors got a pair of good pitching performances to hold down Post 14 and take a sweep; 8-4 and 4-0. Jamestown falls to 13-9 on the season with a state record of 6-6. It was just the third and fourth state counter games for Bismarck who evened their record at 2-2.
Nate Dinga ran into trouble in the first inning and the seventh inning, but in between he was unhittable. After giving up two first-inning runs, Dinga settled down and retired 16 in-a-row.
Jake Stilwell broke up that streak in the seventh, driving a fastball over the 385 sign in left-center field for a solo home run. Jamestown got one more in the inning, but Bismarck already had the game well in hand.
Andrew Dill and Zach Shouchard combined to shutout Jamestown in game two. Joey Gebhardt got the start on the mound, but had trouble with his control in the early innings to the tune of eight walks and three hit batters.
Bismarck pushed across two runs in the second inning, aided by a wild pitch and a throwing error.
Jamestown had their best chance in the fourth inning. Ben Walz came to the plate with the bases full and two outs. He hit a looper behind first that would have cleared the bases if Tyler Clairmont hadn’t made a tumbling catch.
The Governors added two more in the sixth to finish off the 4-0 win.
Jamestown returns to action on Tuesday against Grand Forks at Jack Brown Stadium. Game one of that double-header will be on AM 1400 KQDJ.
