CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Barnes County Emergency Manager Kim Franklin said two homes in Valley City had their basements cave in following torrential rain on Thursday night as 25 percent of the homes or businesses in the city had water damage. She says a few rural homes also received damage from the heavy rain as well as county roads. Franklin had a few tips for those cleaning up from flood damage.
American Red Cross Clean up kits are available Monday thru Friday at the Barnes County Highway Department office.
Meanwhile the basement of the Valley City LEC was full of water according to Police Lt. Mark McDonald.
Valley City Auditor Avis Richter said every office received water except for the Mayor’s office.
Valley City residents can take their flood damaged debris to the landfill free of charge until further notice according to Mayor Bob Werkhoeven.
Barnes County residents with flood damage are encouraged to report it to by calling 845-6678. The line will operate 24/7 to leave a message.
