CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Several streets were flooded in Valley City and about 25 percent of the homes in the city have water in their basements following torrential rains that hit the city Thursday night and dropped 5 to 7 inches of rain.

Valley City Mayor Bob Werkhoeven said the master lift station was struck by lightening and soon was soon overwhelmed to capacity. He said residents should limit their water usage until further notice. Werkhoeven said Valley City residents can haul flood damaged debris to the area landfill free of charge until further notice or leave flood damage debris on the boulevard for pickup.
