N.D. (AP) – At least one person has died in flash flooding in southeastern North Dakota following torrential rains. Sargent County Sheriff Travis Paeper tells KFGO radio that at least one person was in a pickup truck that was swept off state Highway 32 near Gwinner.

Officials are unsure whether a second person was inside. Divers won’t be sent in until conditions improve. Officials have closed Highway 32 north of Gwinner and state Highway 13 west of the city.

Flood waters in Gwinner have swamped streets and buildings including the Bobcat Co. plant. City Auditor Jessica Peterson tells The Associated Press that a lot of basements are “completely full” of water, and the town’s sewer system also has been overwhelmed. Several flash flood warnings are posted in the eastern two-thirds of the state.
