(NewDakota.com ) The Oakes American Legion Post 36 baseball team earned their first win of the season in Section 2 play on Monday night, as they defeated Ellendale Post 137 3-2 in five innings.
Monday’s game was a far cry from the three hour match-up between the two squads on Saturday which saw Oakes as the victors 23-13. Oakes’ John Tyre and Ellendale’s Josh Hansen threw solid until the fourth inning when both teams offenses found their legs. Oakes scored all three of their runs in the inning, while Ellendale scored all of theirs in the home half of the fourth.
In the top of the sixth inning, the game was called due to lighting, and Post 36 was declared the winner. Tyre struck out nine, while Hansen struck out seven. Oakes’ Bryce Meehl along with Hansen each had a double and scored a run.
