“Jim” Magill, 76, of Verona, North Dakota, passed away June 14, 2013.
James Patrick, son of Thomas and Viola (Lemna) Magill was born January 26, 1937 in the family home on the farm near Verona. He attended rural grade school at Cleveland, and graduated from Verona High School. He then attended North Dakota State University in Fargo majoring in Agriculture. After graduating, Jim moved back to the Magill Farmstead to farm. He married Bonnie Peterson on June 10, 1961, and together they had three children, Jeffery, Jane, and Timothy. He semi-retired in 1988, but continued raising cattle until age 65, when he fully retired.
Jim enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida, and in the summer months he would drive around the countryside watching the crops grow and stopping at the neighbors to visit. Jim loved all sports, and he especially enjoyed attending baseball games and golfing. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, and looked forward to their annual summer fishing trip to Lake Sakakawea and deer hunting season.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie; daughter, Jane Magill, Fargo, ND; son, Tim Magill, Verona, ND; three grandchildren, Brandon Rustan, Brittany Rustan, and Brenda Rustan, all of Moorhead, MN; two great-grandchildren, Emery Rustan, and BreAnna Rustan, both of Moorhead; a sister, Grace Domine, Kansas City, MO; and two brothers, Roland Magill, Lisbon, ND and Robert (Sharon) Magill of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jeffery Magill, one sister, Marion Schumacher, and two brothers, Dr. John “Jack” Magill and Judge Frank Magill.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Oakes. His funeral mass will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Oakes, with burial to follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery near Verona.
