N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A group of young people from Oakes completed their 72 mile four-day trek across two states on Sunday as they walked to combat cancer.
Oakes High School Senior Aaron Gabriel and seven of his friends known as “The Wanderers” started their trek Thursday morning and reached Oakes on Sunday around 3 p.m. Alongside Gabriel were Eric Burrows, Brett Wojtalewicz, Allan Paul, Price Ketterling, Preston Anderson, Tristan Meyer and Daniel Courtney.

Gabriel’s mother Tracy says the boys battled blisters and sunburn throughout their journey, but says she and others in the community could not be more proud of her son and the other seven young men who took part in this journey.
“The Wanderers” are between the ages of 15 and 18, and so far, the group has raised roughly $2,000 for the Dickey County Relay for Life. The Dickey County Relay For Life event this year is set for June 21 at Hockenberry Park in Oakes.
