(NewsDakota.com) A group of young people from the Oakes area plan to hitch a ride to Aberdeen, South Dakota Thursday morning, and then walk the 70 miles back over the next three days to show their support and raise monies for the Dickey County Relay For Life.
Oakes High School Senior Aaron Gabriel and seven of his friends are known as “The Wanderers”, and will start their trek from the Hub City at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning. “The Wanderers” are between the ages of 15 and 18, and will walk straight up Highway 281 towards Ellendale, before making the eastwardly turn towards Oakes.
If all goes well, “The Wanderers” will go 21 miles north to Frederick, South Dakota on Thursday, will be in Ellendale on Friday, stop just outside of Oakes on Saturday, and arrive back in town on Sunday.
Donations can be made to the team through the Dickey County Relay For Life website, and those interested in the group’s progress can follow Aaron’s Twitter Feed.
