Ruth Ferguson, age 98, of Valley City, ND, died Sunday, May 26th at Mercy Hospital in Valley City. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 1st a the Sheyenne Care Center Chapel with Chaplain Virginia Davy officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the Sheyenne Care Center Chapel. Inurnment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Valley City, ND.

     Ruth was born on the homestead of her parents, Alex and Ada (Britney) Ferguson near Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, on November 10, 1914. She died May 26, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, North Dakota.

     Ruth’s mother died when she was five months old and she was raised by her grandmother and her father. She received her schooling in the Pequot area and completed the 9th grade there. When she was 20 she moved to Minneapolis where she attended North Central Bible School. She graduated in 1938. In the early 1940’s she and a friend did evangelical mission work in Northern Minnesota. She moved to Valley City, North Dakota where she worked at The Fair Store and Penny’s. In the mid 1940’s she continued mission work in North Dakota.

     From 1950-1956 she was a missionary in Japan. When she returned from Japan she worked at the Sheyenne Manor until 1962, when she enrolled in the Licensed Practical Nurse Program in Devils Lake, North Dakota. She graduated in 1963 and then worked at a nursing home in Jamestown for a year until she went to Portland, Oregon and Escondido, California where she was involved in home-care nursing for 30 years. In about 1985 she retired and returned to Valley City in 1993 to be near family. She became a resident of Sheyenne Care Center in February of 2008.

     She is survived by the following nieces and nephews: Bill Hill of Valley City, ND; Dorothy (Wes) Dunham of Cass Lake, MN; Eleanor (Don) Senrick of Apply Valley, MN; Emil (Donna) Hass Jr of Valley City, ND; JoAnn Korf of Valley City, ND. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Olive Hill and Evelyn Hass, both of Valley City, ND and niece, Arlene Froemke and an infant niece.
