CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Hi-Liner fastpitch softball team is headed back to the State Tournament.

The Hi-Liners were runner-ups this weekend during the EDC Tournament in Fargo, claiming the No. 2 seed from the EDC for the State Tournament beginning Thursday in West Fargo.

Valley City advanced to Saturday’s EDC title game with an 8-4 win over Red River and a 10-3 win over Fargo Davies. In the championship though, defending state champion West Fargo was just too tough as they claimed the title with an 8-0 win against the Hi-Liners.

Brooke Breckheimer, Jessica Denholm and Dierra Diegel were all named to the All EDC Team for Valley City, and Hi-Liner coach Jason Lindgren was named Co-Coach of the Year with West Fargo’s Pat Johnson. West Fargo’s Jolene Woodbury was named the EDC Senior Athlete of the Year.

Valley City now shifts its focus to the Class A State Tournament starting Thursday in West Fargo. The Hi-Liners take on Dickinson in the opening round at about 2 p.m. Thursday.
