CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Hi-Liner softball team clinched its spot at the State Tournament on Friday night with a 10-3 win over Fargo Davies in the EDC Tournament Semifinals.

Jessica Denholm and Dierra Diegel each hit home runs for Valley City, which trailed 2-0 early, but scored the next eight runs to take control of the game. Paula Andel had three hits, including a triple and a double, scored two runs and drove in three runs. Denholm also had three hits, scored two runs and drove in two.

For the second straight game, both Denholm and Danica Diegel pitched. Diegel threw 3 1/3 innings Friday night, allowing two runs. Denholm tossed 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run.

Valley City advances to play West Fargo in the EDC Championship Game at 3 p.m. Saturday in Fargo at the Anderson Softball Complex. Both teams have already qualified for next week’s state tournament.

West Fargo defeated Devils Lake 10-0 in Friday’s other semifinal.
