(NewsDakota.com) The first game yesterday featured the defending Region 3 Champs Carrington and Midkota in a must win situation, with the winner advancing to play Dakota Prairie for a chance to play for the State Tournament in Mandan. The Cards came out strong and beat the Mustangs 7-0 to advance to the Region 3 Championship game. Midkota ends their season at 8-5, the Cardinals improved to 10-2.
Patrick Freeman was the winning pitcher, going five strong innings and five strikeouts. Freeman was also 3-for-4 at the plate, with an RBI and a double. Taylor Skytland went 3-for-4 and Logan Clifton was 2-for-3, scoring a run.
In the second game, Dakota Prairie played Carrington for the second time in the Tourney. These two teams met in the semifinal round Thursday, Dakota Prairie beat Carrington 3-1. But Carrington came back with a win over the Knights yesterday 7-0. Because its a double elimination tourney, Dakota Prairie and Carrington would have to replay the Championship game, the Knights had only lost one game.
Going the distance for the Cards was Marcus Hewitt, pitching a strong seven innings. Hewitt threw 85 pitches and had five strikeouts. Taylor Skytland was 3-for-4 with three stolen bases. Alex Nelson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Logan Clifton went 2-for-4.
In the third straight game of the day for the Cards, Carrington and Dakota Prairie matched up again, this time the winner would advance to the State Tournament. Carrington beat The Knights 9-2 and earned themselves a back-to-back trip to the State Tournament in Mandan starting on Thursday, May 30th. The Cards improve to 12-2, The Knights end their season at 6-6.
