(NewsDakota.com)- The Blue Jays will have to wait another day to try and punch their first ticket to the state baseball tournament since 2007. Jamestown ended up on the wrong end of a pitchers dual during Friday’s West Region semifinal.
Bismarck’s Nate Dinga allowed just two hits in a 1-0 complete game win for the Demons. Jamestown’s Joey Gebhardt wasn’t as unhittable, but still yielded just one run on nine hits in six innings.
The Demons lone run came after loading the bases on a walk and pair of infield singles in the bottom of the 6th. Parker Oswald hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in the games only run.
In the top of the seventh, Jamestown had a chance to tie the game. With two-outs Gebhardt walked and Anthony Cook followed with a double to keep the game alive. Freshman Tanner Luntzman popped up the first pitch he saw to end the game.
Cook’s double was one of just two Jamestown hits. Lunzman singled in the third for the first hit off Dinga.
Bismarck will play Dickinson for the West Region title Saturday at 5pm. Both of those teams are in the state tournament and will now play for seeding.
Jamestown will try to secure a bid to state, which will be held at Jack Brown Stadium next week, at noon against St. Mary’s. You can catch that game on 1400 KQDJ and NewsDakota.com.
