Laurits “Pete” Nelson, 60, succumbed to cancer, died in his home on Monday, May 20, 2013.
L. Peter Nelson was born on April 4, 1953, in Jamestown, ND, son of June C. (Baird) and Clarence P. “Howdy” Nelson. He attended school in Edgeley graduating from Edgeley High School with the Class of 1971. Pete entered the US Air Force in September 1971 and served until December 1974 when he was honorably discharged.
On April 10, 1993, Pete married Susan (Kasemodel) at First Presbyterian Church in Edgeley, ND. Together they had one child, Lance Laurits Nelson and resided on the home farm in Willowbank Township.
Over the years Pete worked for many construction companies like Border States and Northern Improvement. He enjoyed working for Bedker Auction. The Edgeley Sale Barn was his last employment before retiring due to illness.
Pete loved the farm, collecting Breyer model horses as well as PBR (well maybe that was in his earlier years) but later on it was the Professional Bull Riding that he spent hours recording various PBR events complete with editing the commercials.
He is survived by his wife, Susan (Kasemodel) Nelson, Edgeley, one son, Lance Nelson, LaMoure, ND, two brothers, David Nelson, Sioux Falls, SD, Charles (Jeanne) Nelson, Northglenn, CO, three sisters, Martha “Marty” Doyscher, Denver, CO, Carleen Syversen, Edgeley, ND, Gail (Jim) Anderson, Mandan, ND, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents Clarence P. Nelson, June C. Nelson, mother-in-law Dolores Kasemodel and father-in-law Alvin Kasemodel and sister-in-law Darlene Nelson and niece Sonya Nelson.
Visitation: Wesley United Methodist Church, 305 5th Ave. W., Edgeley, ND will be Thursday, May 23, 2013 beginning at 4 to 7pm. Prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm.
Funeral Services: Friday, May 24, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Wesley United Methodist Church, 305 5th Ave. W. Edgeley, ND with Pastor Joddy Meidinger officiating.
Interment: Mt Hope Cemetery, Edgeley, ND.
Family will be meeting before and after both services at the Jackson Building in Edgeley, ND.
