CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The floodplain and concern over lead levels in the basement of a city owned building was an excuse to move 9-1-1 into the Barnes County courthouse basement according to Valley City commissioner Mary Lee Nielson. She said it isn’t a good move to do so at the expense of the county taxpayer. Nielson did not list any reasons as to why she thought the county was making the move and taking control of the 9-1-1 dispatchers.
Earlier this year the Barnes County board of commissioners voted to move the Public Service Answering Point Dispatch Center from city owned property and into the basement of the courthouse.
Barnes County board of commission president Eldred Knutson told newsdakota.com that he was caught off guard by the comments concerning the move made by Nielson on Monday. He said, “the last thing we need to do is stir up the public about an issue that the board has already decided when the wheels are in motion to start the moving project of the dispatch center. Knutson said we wanted to work together with the city to get the job done with the lest amount of contention. He said I hope both entities will do what’s best for the public.
